ABOUT TABSDATA

Rebuilding Data Engineering

Data engineering deserved a rebuild. Every data team we've ever met has the same number on the wall: a request backlog measured in weeks or months, and getting worse. We built Tabsdata because that number finally became fixable — but not by adding another tool to the pile.

Two Decades in Data Infrastructure

Tabsdata's founding team built StreamSets, the enterprise data integration platform that is now part of IBM. A couple of decades in this industry teaches you one uncomfortable lesson: the data request backlog survives every generation of tooling. Warehouses got faster, pipelines got easier to write, catalogs got prettier — and the queue kept aging, because every new tool added another disconnected system whose context lived somewhere else.

AI agents changed the math — but only in principle. An agent bolted across disconnected tools inherits all of their blindness. The backlog becomes fixable only if the agent and the infrastructure are one system: every table versioned, every execution traced, every definition current, and a human approving every change. That's the system we built. That's Tabsdata.

What We Won't Trade Away

Safe by Construction, Not by Supervision

Agent safety has to come from the architecture — versioned immutable state, native lineage, human approval gates — not from hoping the model behaves. If safety is a policy, it will be bypassed. If it's the substrate, it can't be.

Amplify Engineers, Don't Replace Them

Tabsdata exists to give data engineers their judgment back — the agent handles discovery, duplication checks, and boilerplate, and the engineer makes the calls that matter. The measure of success is a team doing more consequential work, not a smaller team.

Land Beside the Stack, Not on Top of It

Data Lakes and Data Warehouses are destinations, not enemies. We earn our place on net-new workloads, prove the number, and expand from there. No rip-and-replace, ever, as a precondition.
